We’re looking for a talented Senior Medical Writer with 
digital/eHealth communications experience  tolead and manage the delivery of the scientific content for a range of medicalcommunications that meet client’s needs, internal quality standards, and timelines.You’ll enjoy a diverse and varied role that includes mentoring, applying yourtherapeutic knowledge to the strategic marketing of pharmaceuticals to accountplans, and providing editorial advice to a variety of stakeholders and,publication plans and/or communication programmes. This role provides anopportunity to contribute to revenue targets through strong project managementof a range of projects, making sure deliverables are met on time and on budget.


You’ll have extensive writing experience in a medicalcommunications agency with demonstrable client liaison and interaction skills,including client visits and on-site experience. Proven experience in coachingJunior Writers is vital. It’s essential you have a Life Science degree orequivalent experience.

Project work

·        To provide strategicdirection and manage tactical delivery of scientific content for a range ofmedical communications that meet client needs, internal quality standards andtimelines:

·        Act as senioreditorial lead for one or more accounts and provide the main point of contacton matters of scientific content for the client and KOLs.

·        Provide editorialquotes for costing purposes.

·        Advise Senior andScientific Services Directors about editorial resource requirements.

·        To review scientificcontent for a range of medical communications according to client needs, internalquality standards and agreed specifications, budgets and timeframes:

·        Provide full briefs todelegate editorial projects to Medical Writers and Associate Medical Writers toinclude scope, content, time to spend on project and deadlines.

·        Monitor quality, styleand accuracy and provide timely, consistent and constructive feedback whenreviewing.

·        Ensure that projectsreflect a thorough understanding of clients’ marketing objectives and thatscientific messages are supported appropriately.

·        Liaise with clientsand Account Manager to agree specifications and check that client expectationsare being met.

·        Liaise with Senior andScientific Services Directors on junior writers’ training needs and providecoaching and mentoring as required.


Business Planning/commercial

·        To apply knowledge ofthe therapeutic use and strategic marketing of pharmaceuticals to accountplans, strategic publication plans, strategic communication programmes,proposals and pitches:

·        Participate fully inbriefing and brainstorming meetings.

·        Provide scientificexpertise to Business Development Manager in the development of new businesspitches and proposals.

·        Maintain broadawareness of developments in relevant therapeutic areas and discipline,editorial issues within publishing and the Springer Healthcare productportfolio.

·        Provide scientificinput to complement Account Management in developing new opportunities withinaccounts.

·        Contribute to revenuetargets by ensuring that projects are progressed as soon as possible afterconfirmation.

·        Monitor own adherenceto budget and utilisation rate.

·        Record and monitoractual time spent on a project against budgeted time, and complete timesheetsin an accurate and timely manner.

·        In conjunction withSenior and Scientific Services Directors, help develop junior writers within anaccount team to achieve their full potential:

·        Coach and mentorjunior writers as required.

·        Assist with deliveringeditorial training in relevant therapy area/discipline.

·        Assist Senior andScientific Services Directors in review of test projects and/or recruitment byinterviewing candidates, if required.

·        Support team workingprinciples and collaboration within inScience Communications, the account teamand other departments, by attending team and editorial meetings/tutorials.

·        Any other duties asrequested by manager.


Travel requirements:

Travelling and attendance at client meetings, new businesspitches, scientific congresses and Advisory Boards, on an ad hoc basis, asrequired.


Minimum Qualifications:


·        Life science degree



·        Life science degree inpharmacy or medicine

·        Higher degree


Previous Work Experience:


·        Extensive writingexperience in a medical communications agency

·        Strong reviewing/coachingexperience in a medical communications agency

·        digital/eHealth communications
