Full time position with flexibility to work from home and in the Chester office, UK

An exciting opportunity for a committed and driven Principal Medical Writer has arisen in a stand-out global medical communications company specialised in medical education, digital marketing and training content development and delivery. The successful candidate will join a talented and dynamic team in their Chester hub and will support them and the other global hubs in developing core medical education content for global pharmaceutical clients. 

Reporting into the Scientific Communications Director, this role has the responsibility to:

  • Manage the delivery of medical communications scientific content across a breadth of therapeutic areas 
  • Act as lead writer on multiple accounts
  • Travel internationally as required (e.g., to client meetings and to deliver scientific programmes)
This role requires expertise in a breadth of medical education meetings and materials, and in general there will be little involvement in publication planning or manuscript/abstract writing, though knowledge of this is required.


  • Deliver scientific content that meets client needs and requirements within agreed timelines
  • Take editorial lead on one or more accounts preparing high quality medical copy and briefing other writers as required
  • Review editorial output over a variety of projects and provide appropriate feedback 
  • Provide editorial input and content for digital projects (eblasts, apps, websites, etc)
  • Work with other members of the editorial team to create strategic project plans (communication plans, programme agendas, etc)
  • Work in a virtual environment and demonstrate flexibility to consider various time zones
  • Attend scientific programmes and congresses when necessary
  • Liaise directly with international clients, partners, programme faculty and other healthcare professionals
  • Contribute to business development activities for existing and new clients
  • Support other members of the wider team as required
  • Contribute to weekly planning and status meetings with the wider project teams

  • Life sciences degree (essential)
  • Post-graduate sciences degree (essential)
Essential Experience
  • Previous experience as a Senior Medical Writer or Principal Medical Writer (essential) 
  • Greater than 5 years of experience in a medical communications agency or the pharmaceutical industry (essential)
  • Experience across a number of therapeutic areas (essential)
  • Experience in developing creative copy for a variety of medical education projects (essential)
  • Understanding of the drug development process and regulatory guidelines (essential)
