Managing Editor – Home-based role (part time)

Job Details:
This is a great opportunity to assume editorial management of our online open access medical journal Drugs in Context ( whilst working from home. This is a part-time role overseeing the editorial direction of the title in liaison with our Editorial Board. The Managing Editor will manage the peer-review process and undertake some direct commissioning of contributions. You will also help shape the ancillary content presented on the journal website. Coverage of the journal spans all medical specialties. The principal content consists of original research articles and reviews, together with other articles such as case reports, conference reports and guest editorials.

Key duties:
  • Check emails and online peer-review system daily
  • Respond to enquiries from potential authors/clients
  • Set up new projects and maintain files/folders using established systems
  • Conduct peer review management using online peer-review system; ensure timely peer review of, and decisions on, articles
  • Liaise with Associate Editors, production staff and Publisher to ensure timely publication of articles
  • Perform technical check on accepted articles and pdfs before publication
  • Commission articles to enhance our coverage of topical themes in clinical medicine; chase invitees and ensure timely submission of manuscripts
  • Maintain all aspects of journal ethics & quality, ensure adherence to publishing guidelines, assist with abstracting and indexing requirements
  • Maintain active Editorial Board
  • Provide monthly summary to Publisher.
  • Life sciences degree and broad understanding across clinical medicine.
  • Previous experience in scientific publishing, medical communications or medical writing.
  • Organized and systematic approach and good eye for detail.
  • Knowledge of the academic publishing and the print/production process would be advantageous but not essential.
Training will be provided in all of the systems and procedures used in publication of Drugs in Context. You will be working with a friendly, experienced team to drive the journal forward.
