Background:

Our client is a renowned medical communications agency based in Oxfordshire. New business wins lead them to seek an Associate Director to lead a team in their medical education division.

The aim of the role is to provide programme strategy and direction and ensure timely delivery of client programmes. You will strengthen and develop client relationships and have a responsibility for new business. As well as company and account financial management, you will support and develop your team to their potential.

Account Direction:

  • Responsibility for developing strategic approach and recommendations, tactical programmes and finalising programme activity and budget with client
  • Direct account team activity to ensure appropriate tactical programmes are developed and implemented
  • Ensure staff ownership and responsibility for projects for all members of the team
  • Maintain strategic overview of account: develop in-depth therapy area knowledge, keep abreast of new data, outside issues and events, in order to proactively advise client on new issues/external environment and contribute to strategic planning meetings with client
  • Instigate brainstorms to develop the strategic, creative direction of accounts
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of financial status of account at all times and retain responsibility for monthly revenue and cost reporting
  • Responsibility for account/project profitability and maintaining agreed fee income
  • Responsibility for negotiating and establishing financial arrangements with client
  • Ensure resourcing within the account is appropriate at all times
  • Responsibility for ensuring team adheres to internal processes, client regulatory and contractual requirements and industry regulations

Client Liaison:

  • Act as the principal client services lead and senior contact
  • Contribute to client medical communications, marketing strategy and thinking and face-to-face meetings and via routine telephone and email contact
  • Monitor external environment and highlight key issues and work with the Managing Director/Management Team to inform the client of implications and potential actions required
  • Establish and maintain a role as consultant/adviser to client in partnership with Managing Director/ Management Team
  • Responsibility for highlighting issue management procedures to the client for implementation by the account team
  • Organise annual internal review of account and work with the Managing Director to implement outcomes
  • Organise client appraisal and support/work with the Managing Director to implement outcomes

New Business:

  • Create and develop opportunities for growing existing business with existing clients and client contacts
  • Responsibility for identifying and developing new business opportunities, developing RFIs, RFPs, credentials and pitch presentations and presenting at new business pitches

Professional Relations:

  • Responsibility for facilitating the development of client/key opinion leader relationships
  • Develop and maintain excellent knowledge of client opinion leader profiles
  • Identify opportunities to build opinion leader base and develop additional activity
  • Monitor and investigate ''market intelligence'' using the views of opinion leader regarding pertinent issues (external/product/competition) in conjunction with the Management Team and in line with regulations

Management:

  • Lead and motivate team to fulfil their potential and assume responsibility appropriate to their position
  • Make recommendations to Managing Director on staffing and personal development
  • Line management and formal/informal training of team members
  • Take specific management responsibilities as part of the senior management team to drive elements of the agreed company strategy, and provide regular updates to the Managing Director/Senior Management Team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Degree in life science or communications
  • Significant experience of pharmaceutical product marketing preferably gained in a healthcare agency environment
  • Experienced in managing a team
  • Successful client relationship builder/manager
  • Financial management and its application
  • Commercial/business awareness
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player
