Background:

Our client is an international Medical Communications Agency. They have an opportunity for a Project Director (PD) to join their Cheshire based team in a leadership position.

Flexible, dynamic leadership with excellent communication and influencing skills are a must as the PD will play a key commercial role in the company. Results driven with a strong client focus, the PD is pivotal to the successful delivery and development of accounts within the business. Business acumen is also an important characteristic as the PD will be expected to uncover and develop opportunities within existing accounts as well as generate ideas and take the lead on new pitches and proposals. With excellent planning and organisation skills, the PD will be expected to juggle multiple projects at once. Strong problem solving and analytical skills are critical to the job role as the PD will need to fully appreciate the science and advise our clients accordingly. This role will have line management responsibility so the ability to foster, build and develop a strong team is crucial. 

Client Management:

  • Ensure effective client management processes are followed (e.g. regular meetings, project updates)
  • Conduct regular team reviews to identify upcoming client needs and requirements
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the client taking a medium term view of client requirements

Project Leadership:

  • Provide leadership on project management processes and procedures to the team
  • Line-manage/mentor a group of project leaders and build a strong delivery team
  • Identify training needs of project leaders and provide development plan

Financial Management:

  • Take overall responsibility for the sales target of the business team
  • Liaise with editorial director to monitor chargeable time and recovery rates for the team
  • Approve all budgets generated by the team prior to submission
  • Work with project leaders and financial controller to ensure accurate project tracking of costs and where necessary escalate to management team/client

Resource Management:

  • Liaise with the other project director, development director, technical director, and managing editor to ensure optimal use of resource across the company
  • Recruit new members into the delivery team and develop them

Team Building:

  • Work with editorial director to build the delivery team for projects
  • Work with editorial director to develop a strong team spirit in the group

Business Development:

  • Lead/provide input to proposals and pitches
  • Provide direction on product development
  • Work with editorial director and project leaders to identify opportunities for organic growth

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Life science degree
  • Previous experience of working on pharmaceutical marketing accounts preferably gained in a medical communications agency environment
  • Relationship management skills
  • Experience of proactive client management processes
  • Leadership skills
  • Decision-making skills
  • Staff management - assessment, coaching and appraising staff
  • Training and mentoring
  • Financial management
  • Experience of compiling and managing project costings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
