Medical Writer - based in Manchester - NICE

Business Type: Health Service, Medical Communications Agency
Job Type: Medical Writing and Editorial
Job Level: Experienced (non manager)
Position: Contract
Salary: Band 7 (£30,460 - £40,157)
Location: UK - North West
Reference: Med-Writ-NICE
Closing Date: 22/06/12
Background:
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) was formed on 1 April 2005, when the National Institute for Clinical Excellence took on the functions of the Health Development Agency to create a single excellence-in-practice organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health.

Medical Writer
Based in Manchester
Fixed term for 9 months
Band 7 (£30,460 - £40,157)

NICE seeks a highly experienced Medical Writer to work on its series of Evidence Updates publications, based in its Manchester office.

Evidence Updates are a recent addition to NICE’s product portfolio. They identify new evidence published since a piece of NICE guidance was issued and examine whether the evidence might reinforce or generate future change to the practice laid out in the current guidance. We will produce around 20 Evidence Updates every year, which are published online via NHS Evidence, a service provided by NICE to improve use of, and access to, evidence-based information about health and social care.

You will work as part of the Evidence Updates editorial team to deliver these high-quality reviews of evidence for a specialist audience within agreed timelines. You will be responsible for contributing to the project management of Evidence Updates, in conjunction with writing, substantive editing and copy editing of several Evidence Updates at various stages of the production process, liaising with the authors and peer reviewers as needed. Experience of medical publishing and working as part of a busy project team are therefore essential.

You will work with staff at all levels across NICE and with external clinical specialists who form the expert advisory group convened for each Evidence Update. You will be required to attend Evidence Update Advisory Group meetings (an average of one per month), so the ability to travel to our site in London is essential.

This post is a full-time fixed-term contract of 9 months with the option to extend and the successful candidate would be expected to start by mid-September 2012.

Closing date for applications: noon 22 June 2012 - please note we cannot accept late applications.

Interviews: week commencing 23 July 2012
